Peterson Foundation, the Coalition for Fiscal and National Security is led by a group of distinguished defense, economic, and foreign policy leaders calling for sound fiscal and defense policies to reflect the realities of the 21st century. Framing the national debt as a national security imperative, the Coalition advocates changes to discretionary spending — including defense — and entitlements in order to put the U.S. on a fiscally sustainable path.

InDebtEd (short for "in-debt education") is a joint campaign by PGPF and MTV's campus network, mtvU, to alert college students to the personal and governmental dangers of financial irresponsibility. The program encourages students to take action to secure their futures. The campaign's aim is to empower young people to protect themselves financially and to work together to advocate government fiscal responsibility in order to change the course of the nation's future.

When PGPF's leadership began laying plans for the Foundation's first year, a unique opportunity emerged.
