The congressional supercommittee was given extraordinary powers to address the United States’ fiscal challenges. Unfortunately the committee’s members were unable to come to an agreement on meaningful deficit reduction prior to their deadline. Moving forward will require compromise, leadership from both parties, and a focus on the long-term factors that are at the heart of America’s deficits and debt.
