America's Promise

www.americaspromise.org

The Foundation is pleased to award one of its first grants, in the amount of $1 million, to America's Promise Alliance for use in leveraging its 200-strong partner network to expand the teaching of financial literacy and related civic activities for middle and high school students around the country.

Efforts by the Alliance to improve financial literacy among young people will include peer-to-peer activities by the Alliance's Youth Partnership Team; the advancement of efforts already underway by Alliance partners to extend financial literacy teaching tools to a broader audience; and the development and launch of an online training program for educators and youth service providers timed to, and based upon the release of the critically acclaimed documentary "I.O.U.S.A.," which tells the story of our growing national debt.

The Alliance also will leverage scheduled gatherings of its partner network to advance the Foundation's mission, including the Alliance's forthcoming 12-city conference in September 2008, its annual 100 Best National Forum, Dropout Prevention summits, and activities surrounding its 100 Best Communities for Young People competition.
