As a start-up itself, the Foundation is pleased to provide start-up non-profit Be The Change, Inc. with $250,000 toward the execution of a groundbreaking campaign to inspire the next President and Congress to enact new legislation that will offer all Americans meaningful national service opportunities and boost civic engagement.
The multi-platform pilot program will include a September 2008 summit attended by high-profile community and political leaders, a mobilization effort that will unify more than 100 partner organizations in grassroots and advocacy work, and a bipartisan legislative strategy. This anticipated year-long effort will serve as a model for future public policy campaigns that engage citizens directly in the process of formulating and enacting solutions to critical issues challenging the country's future, including education and fiscal issues. Overall, the project echoes the Foundation's goals of bringing Americans together in efforts that transcend generational and party lines to achieve real results.
