With a $700,000 grant from the Foundation, the Center for the Study of the Presidency will continue to organize and execute a Comprehensive Net Assessment (CNA) to help inform President Barack Obama and members of Congress on how to address the nation's most urgent challenges and address key sustainability issues facing the country.

Beginning in September 2008, the Comprehensive Net Assessment will move through three distinct phases over fifteen months. In the first phase, the Center will organize a steering committee of preeminent public and private sector leaders to develop its blueprint and provide guidance and insight throughout the project. During the second phase of the project, the Center will publish the CNA. The projects' third and final phase will be building upon the CNA and developing a comprehensive framework that will recommend long-term policy solutions to address the nation’s most pressing issues. To highlight the publication of the final CNA in November 2009, the Center will host a Congressional panel and series of Executive Branch meetings.

The Center for the Study of the Presidency supports the Foundation's urgent call for national leaders to confront our critical public policy challenges. Domestically, leaders face national bankruptcy, massive healthcare costs, trillions of dollars in unfunded entitlements and an educational system inadequate in vital areas such as math, science, and engineering. National security is threatened by foreign ownership of U.S. debt, dependence on foreign oil, and the growing menace of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction.

The Center is a non-partisan, non-profit organization founded in 1965. federal finances and fiscal responsibility as a part of more colleges' curricula, and seeding and inspiring student organizations to speak out as informed, active citizens.
