Introduction from the President
PGPF President Dave Walker's Welcome Message and Call for Fiscal Responsibility
I am pleased to have the opportunity to serve as the first President and CEO of the Peter G. Peterson Foundation. I am even more pleased to have the opportunity to work in partnership with Pete Peterson, a great individual whose life is a case study of the American Dream. By establishing this Foundation, Pete is putting his money to work on a number of important issues about which he has been speaking and writing for over 30 years.
All of us at the Foundation realize we are taking on a number of complex public-policy challenges that are of critical importance to the future of our country and our families. We are dedicated to doing our best to promote responsibility and accountability today in order to ensure more opportunity for everyone tomorrow. To do so, we will engage in a range of grant-making and operational activities in our areas of focus. Our efforts will be designed as a series of issue campaigns to accelerate action and achieve real results. Importantly, the Foundation will remain nonpartisan and non-ideological and will seek sensible solutions that can be adopted on a bipartisan basis. In doing so, we will partner for progress with a number of other organizations.
The Foundation will place special emphasis on three key audiences: younger people, the business and professional community, and the media. We will leverage the Internet, film, and other non-traditional media to get our messages out. This website, already quite interactive, will be upgraded regularly. We would appreciate your ideas and assistance to help us make a meaningful and lasting difference in our areas of focus.
We hope that you care about this country and our future as much as we do. If you do, please sign up at our Action Center to help us keep America strong and the American Dream alive. By working together, "We the People" can take steps to ensure that our collective future is better than our past, and that our country will be the first republic to stand the test of time.
