Department Summary

The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Team provides customized support to colleagues and grantees to deliver high-quality M&E for individual projects/grants and to cultivate a portfolio mindset for impact. The team focuses on improving how programmatic/ implementing teams generate, access and use project data, and other available evidence. The team also conducts research and develops recommendations and solutions to support emerging decision-making and organizational learning processes.

As part of this work, the team receives a significant amount of reporting data from partner grants. The Director of Monitoring & Evaluation, in collaboration with programmatic teams, is responsible for structuring, organizing, and analyzing this data to ensure it is usable for monitoring and evaluation (M&E) and to help strengthen evidence-based insights across projects.

Position Summary

PGPF offers a part-time Summer and Fall internship in its New York City office. We are seeking a motivated Monitoring & Evaluation Intern to support the Foundation’s efforts in strengthening data management, analysis, impact frameworks, and reporting systems. The Intern will report directly to the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation and support the development and use of impact frameworks, with a focus on outcome indicators and effective data analysis and use. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in M&E, impact assessment, and data analytics.

Summer and Fall Internship

Internship dates: Up to six months, flexible with school calendars.

The internship is intended for students enrolled in graduate programs in Evaluation, Public Policy or Administration, or Data Science/Analytics. Interns will work 12-20 hours per week during the internship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the analysis of grantee reporting for accuracy, trends and insights
  • Support the annual update to a digital indicators database.
  • Support the M&E Director in developing a standardized menu of outcome indicators aligned with organizational impact frameworks.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis to identify trends and insights.
  • Prepare dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to share findings with internal teams.
  • Collaborate with internal staff to ensure consistent use of indicators across projects.

About the Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Pursuing a graduate degree in Evaluation, Public Policy or Administration or Data Science/Analytics.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
  • Experience with quantitative research, data analysis, and visualization.
  • Proven ability to translate complex information into clear and accessible language.
  • Ability to resourcefully and creatively approach problem solving.
  • Be highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities, adjust to changing circumstances, organize time efficiently, and remain attentive to details.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Applicants should be able to develop and manage productive and collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, fluid environment.
  • Experience taking initiative and the ability to work independently.
  • Experience or educational background in evaluation or program assessment is a plus, as is familiarity with monitoring and evaluation concepts, indicators, and frameworks.
  • To build productive relationships across the organization and to ensure effective collaboration, this role requires in-person presence in accordance with the organization’s hybrid schedule of working in the office three days per week (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday).

Salary and Benefits

Compensation for this role is $18–20/hour.
