“In today’s report, CBO reminds us once again that federal deficits will begin rising again soon, and that our long-term fiscal challenges put our economy at risk.”

An overwhelming majority of voters (85%) are now calling for the President and Congress to spend more time addressing our nation’s long-term fiscal future.

CBO warned in its report that these levels of debt “would have significant negative consequences for the economy in the long term and would impose significant constraints on future budget policy.”

Voters’ sentiment about the national debt has been consistent in recent months, with nearly two-thirds (65%) of Americans saying that their concern has increased in the last few years.

With the 2016 presidential campaign underway, Americans continue to view the national debt as a top priority for the country.

With important fiscal deadlines looming in coming weeks, the nation’s fiscal outlook remains a top concern for American voters.
